CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROM/ ME

 

 

The only thing that’s certain about ME or Chronic Fatigue is that no one yet fully understands the nature of this illness. It appears to be closely linked to our modern lifestyles and our inability to cope with the accumulation of stress factors we are exposed to. When this happens metabolic function is compromised and the body starts to shut down.

Some or all of the following symptoms may show:

  • Persistent mental and physical tiredness
  • Reduced activity levels
  • Fatigue after even minimal exertion
  • loss of mental alertness
  • Sleep disturbances
  • General pain and discomfort
  • Memory loss
  • Bladder dysfucntion
  • Change in normal body temperature
  • Intolerance to heat or cold
  • Persistent flu like symptoms
  • Chemical and food sensitivities

Doctors often link the cause to post viral fatigue, nutritionists to dietary factors and nutritional deficiencies. In reality these are only two of the probable causes of the condition. This also goes some way to explaining why some protocols work for some cases and not others. If your trigger is dietary related then this approach may work for you but not if you have toxic metal poisoning or a viral or parasitic infection, both thought to cause fatigue related illness.

Chronic Fatigue/ME

Chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS, is a debilitating and complex disorder characterized by profound fatigue that is not improved by bed rest and that may be worsened by physical or mental activity. Persons with CFS most often function at a substantially lower level of activity than they were capable of before the onset of illness. In addition to these key defining characteristics, patients report various nonspecific symptoms, including weakness, muscle pain, impaired memory and/or mental concentration, insomnia, and post-exertional fatigue lasting more than 24 hours. In some cases, CFS can persist for years. The cause or causes of CFS have not been specifically identified, but many experts believe that the condition is triggered when the body's natural defensive and healing systems have been weakened by other factors.
