DISCIPLINES,

I work using an integrated model of counselling.  I will often use psychodynamic concepts within my work but value the influences of the humanistic and person centred approaches.

Psychodynamic is a term, which relates to a particular school of therapy.  Freud originally invented this school of thought.  One of the aims within this theory is to develop insight intro the true nature of ones problems (i.e.: their childhood origins) With genuine insight some people experience a release of emotional tension associated with the buried memories.  It would not be right to say that I agree with all Psychodynamic theory and/ or the work of Freud but at times I find some of their concepts interesting and do feel a great deal of problems are buried in past experiences.

I am committed to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for my clients. My approach does not just focus on the problem but also what unused opportunities you may have.  For example the counselling will help to activate your unused potential.  I may use various techniques like relaxation and stress management to help you with coping strategies.

ISSUES HELPED

Counselling provided by New Leaf can cover a range of issues for example:
  • Marriage counselling
  • Alcohol counselling
  • Drug misuse counselling
  • Relationship counselling
  • Anger and stress counselling
ALL THE THINGS YOU BELIEVE IN TO PROMOTE WHO YOU ARE, WHAT YOU DO AND HOW YOU DO IT
Face to face Counselling

The counselling service at New Leaf aims to give you...

  • Focused, modern counselling from an experienced, qualified therapist
  • Improved self-esteem and self-confidence which can lead to better personal and professional relationships
  • Greater awareness of how to address your anger and stress – both your own and others
  • Increased ability to understand your feelings and how to express them appropriately
  • More power to manage situations in your home and work life
  • New skills to help you with relaxation and stress management
Counselling offers a supportive relationship in which you explore any issue at your pace. You are accepted for who you are. It can help you see difficulties more objectively and express your feelings, to help come to terms with new or past experiences. It can be part of a growing process enabling you to change unwanted feelings.

Many people see counselling as an opportunity to undertake personal development in a safe environment and it is not necessary to have a 'problem' to find counselling useful.

What happens?

You are invited to attend an initial one to one, fifty-minute consultation to answer your questions. This is an excellent opportunity to establish how much could be achieved through counselling and see if you can work with your counsellor. It is a chance to explore issues that could affect the relationship between you both as well as explore your personal needs. Time will also be spent outlining the process and techniques used in the counselling.

Counselling clinics are held at New Leaf Counselling and Therapy Centre in Wellington, Somerset.

It is recommended to begin with 10 sessions of counselling. Some people seek a short-term contract with New Leaf while others leave it open-ended.

Everything you discuss is confidential between you and your therapist. There are some legal exceptions and this will be clarified with you prior to your agreeing the contract for working together.
Referrals are received from individuals, GPs, Solicitors, Social Services, Domestic Violence Teams, Courts, Mental Health Services, and Consultant Psychiatrists.
