What is Hypnotherapy

What Hypnotherapy is Not

Stage and TV shows can often give the wrong image of hypnosis, sometimes suggesting a loss of control and dignity. A clinical hypnotherapist must follow a professional code of ethics. A client should always be able to expect absolute confidentiality and trust from his/her hypnotherapist. The main objective of a clinical hypnotherapist is to ensure that the client greatly benefits from each session and leaves feeling much more positive and optimistic after each session.

Hypnosis is not an occult or esoteric art, but a scientifically

Questions you may have about Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a planned programme of treatment which can help you overcome physical and mental difficulties in your life. It is a way of opening your mind to show you how to make changes in yourself for your positive benefit. It is a very gentle and easy process which does not push you in any direction you do not want to go in. It is also very beneficial for opening up your creativity and finding new ways of learning and seeing.

What is Clinical Hypnosis

Clinical Hypnosis is a means of using hypnosis to treat a variety of medical and psychological problems. It is estimated that 85% of people respond very well to hypnosis. It often succeeds where other, more conventional, methods of treatment have not produced the desired results. When carried out by a professionally trained and skilled hypnotherapist, the benefits can be long lasting and often permanent. It is completely natural and safe, with no harmful side effects. If a client finds it difficult going into hypnosis initially other relaxation techniques will be taught. All Sue’s clients are taught the art of Self-Hypnosis.

Hypnosis is an altered state of mind. Hypnotherapy can help someone use this altered state of mind to their positive advantage.

What can Hypnotherapy do for you

The aim of hypnotherapy is to help you realise and achieve your goals and potentials.
It will help you deal with stress, overcome fears and anxieties and help you feel much
more positive and optimistic about your life. Through hypnotherapy you can learn time
management, assertiveness and how to project yourself and achieve you goals. It will
help you overcome obstacles and see problems in a different way.

What is the Sensation of Hypnosis.

It is a completely safe and harmless therapy. It is not a state of unconsciousness, sleep or unawareness. You retain and enhance control of your own mind while in hypnosis. You will hear and know everything that is going on and will not do or say anything that you would not want to. You may experience a very heavy tired feeling or a very light feeling as if you are floating on a cloud. You may enjoy the delicious feeling of drifting in and out of sleep or as though you are awake but are pleasantly dreaming. Most people will drift between levels of trance. For many purposes the light trance state is sufficient for successful therapy. Deep hypnotic trance is a state of profound physical and mental calm, inner peace, contentment and happiness in which awareness may be vastly increased and memory powerfully enhanced.

For hypnosis you will either sit up or lie back in comfortable recliner chair so that your body is completely safe and comfortable. You will then be encouraged to relax your body and conscious mind. In this state your subconscious mind is more open to the positive suggestion you want.

You will emerge from the trance comfortably and easily on direction from the hypnotherapist and you would always come out of the trance quickly if it were necessary for you to do so.

The core of the work used in clinical hypnotherapy is known as ego strengthening so that the client will always leave each session, feeling more positive about themselves. Sue uses a lot of motivational hypnosis and goals setting to enable her clients to move their lives forward.

With certain issues, it is beneficial for the client to regress back in time, under hypnosis, as this can help unearth the root of deeply embedded patterns of behaviour. Past life regression can also be very therapeutic and creative. Neither of these therapies are used in the first session and Sue would always discuss and explain them first and obtain consent from the client.

Goals and Motivation

The wonderful thing about hypnosis is that it always helps you change your outlook for the better. Through hypnosis, you can discover treasures that lie deep inside you. Maybe, an interest or a passion that you had in earlier life could be rekindled. Or you may find a deeper understanding of yourself and your abilities to achieve things that you have always wanted to achieve.

Sue uses very motivational hypnosis. She asks all her clients to bring with them a list of goals. This helps to start focusing the mind before they come for hypnotherapy. These goals can be short or long term goals but must be realistic and achievable. They can be practical day to day goals, like jobs that need to be done at work or home, they can be material, spiritual, relationship, creative, travel goals. Anything at all, that you would like to achieve in your lifetime.

If you have had any major life-changing events, hypnosis can help you come to terms with these in a gentle and comforting way. Perhaps enabling you to understand yourself better AND YOUR ABILITY TO SURVIVE AND GROW

Number of Treatments

Smoking cessation is one main session (approximately 2 hours) followed by a free optional follow up one week later when the Art of Self Hypnosis is taught.

It is advisable to expect 3 or 4 sessions for the treatment of most other issues. However, confidence building and self-esteem could benefit very well, from just one session.

There would normally be a review of the client’s feelings about the session at the beginning of each subsequent session.

Hypnotherapy is extremely beneficial for a wide range of physical and mental issues:

NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING

Neuro Linguistic Programming is a process which was devised in the 1970s by a Professor of Linguistics John Grinder and psychology student Richard Bandler. Their findings were based on the study of the work of two psychologists Fritz Perls and Virginia Satir and that of Milton H Erickson a world famous psychotherapist and hypnotherapist.

What does Neuro-Linguisitc Programming mean?

Neuro
It is accepted that we experience the world through the neurological processes of our five senses: sight sound, taste, smell and touch. We then make sense of that information and act on it.

Linguistic
We use language to order our thoughts and behaviour and to communicate with others.

Programming
The programming refers to way we choose to organise our ideas and actions to produce results.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) can help you reframe your way of interpreting your experiences. When used in conjunction with hypnotherapy you will find that NLP exercises can help you access your subconscious mind and start to understand where certain feelings and emotions are rooted in you. It will help you to break negative belief patterns and expectations you may have about yourself and your life and help you to start focusing on successful outcomes.

NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING (NLP)

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM THERAPY

When our minds and bodies are in perfect harmony then we feel good about ourselves. Positive energy (Chi) can flow around the body uninterrupted.

Our nervous system will respond to a negative situation in less than 100th of a second so feelings of tension, anxiety or fear then trigger a negative response and break the flow of the positive energy. The Chi flow between acupressure points is then interrupted and the brain will register this response and store it away. Should the fear, anxiety or tension occur again the brain will remember the first response and will reinstall it thus compounding the negative feelings.

Emotional Freedom Therapy will show you how to tap the end points of the major energy meridians in the body in order to restore the sense of balance in the body. Rather like Acupressure combined with Psychotherapy and it will reduce feelings of insecurity triggered by personal problems and help people to overcome addictions, fears and obsessive thoughts. The procedure is designed to change and release memories and thoughts connected with certain issues in order to re-balance the energy system. It is now used very widely by modern therapists because of its rapid results.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) was developed by Gary Craig a personal trainer/therapist who came to the realisation that “The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption of the body’s energy system”

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM THERAPY

What is Self-Hypnosis

Self-hypnosis is a very beneficial tool that can help you stay relaxed and calm regardless of any situation. It is a way of going deeper into your inner mind and understanding yourself better and learning to be at peace with yourself. Self-hypnosis will teach you how to relax your body so well that you can relax your conscious mind. The conscious mind is the part we are more familiar with where we have the ability to know and understand, remember, dream, love and feel, analyse, rationalise and intellectualise. When you relax your conscious mind you also relax the critical factor which rather like a subliminal questioning about everything you do. When the critical factor relaxes it is as if a door opens into the subconscious so that you can go deeper into relaxation. By exploring the subconscious mind you can become aware of your true potential and ability to achieve anything you want to achieve. You can utilise the vast resources of the memory and tap into the intellectual powers of the subconscious.

Sue sees many clients with a wide range of issues and has great success with helping
Children become more confident and deal social and learning problems.
