Illness and Disability

Illness and or disability can occur at any time from birth onwards and can happen to anyone of us. Whether from birth, due to an accident or the onset through life, illnesses and disabilities can be debilitating, not only physically, but mentally, spiritually and emotionally too. Support is neccessary for all of us and especially when we are experiencing difficulties, going through a period of change or adjustment or coming to terms and acceptance
Depending on the illness or disability and the circumstance in which they arose and the individual affected, different therapists can greatly help.

If you are sufferring from an illness, disability, recovery from and accident, or anything from which your physical and/or wholeself has been changed, it can greatly help to see a therapist and counsellor. This is ofcourse a totally individual choice. Asside from the medical care that can be given, complimentary therapies and talking and coming to terms with any issues can be an excellent way to optimise holistic and total health. Depression can be common when someone is ill, and trauma to the self can also be a great lasting issue. There may be feelings of loss or bereavement, There may also be feelings of isolation.
There are no set rules ofcourse to how each of us reacts and recovers, but a good therapist can go a long way to support and offer confidential space in which you can express your worries.

Illness and disability can be stressful and lead to depression.  If this depression is not helped it tends to get worse over time.  If you have been through this, you may think that you are a different person to the one you were before, have different values and see the world differently, this may very well be the case.  Illness, accidents, disability can all have a permanent effect on the individual.  Strength can be drawn from this and happy and content lives lived, the solutions are out there for the support that is needed.
