Definition of Abuse
1. Physical abuse, including assault and any deliberate act resulting in physical injuries, including beatings in the guise of corporal punishment but which are delivered with fists or to the child's head. The work of Lewis and Pincus in the States is relevant here - in many violent criminals, especially serial killers, they've found evidence of brain damage during childhood from parental beatings and accidents which have resulted in a smaller than normal cortex, with consequent lack of ability to control violent tendencies.

Abuse and bullying can take many forms, one of these forms is that of physical abuse. Whether in the school play groung, in the home, in the community or even in the workplace, physical abuse as all abuse and bullying is unacceptable. Not only does the physical abuse and assault cause physical damage, it can also effect the total health of the individual involved. It is more often than not accompanied by verbal assault, intimidation and control. The bully or abuser is also mentally and emotionally ill and by inflicting on others can make them ill too.
Abuse can cause many different problems and support is needed. You may wish to go to the police about the assault, in all cases it is best to confide in someone who can help. If you are a child, you can,if possible tell a parent or another adult that you can trust, such as a teacher or your doctor. There are also phone lines that you can contact and you will be able to see a specialist counsellor. If the abuse is in the home, there are also great avenues of help, again you can talk to your GP, local domestic violence group or organisation or see a private counsellor.
