Counselling & Psychotherapy
Counselling and Psychotherapy

# What is Counselling/Psychotherapy?

Counselling or Psychotherapy is a process which allows you to talk about your feelings and concerns within a confidential and supportive environment. It does not involve advice, diagnosis or judgement. Instead it provides you with an opportunity to gain insight into your present situation, feelings and behaviour. As a consequence, you will be able to make a clear and informed choice about your future options in life.

In general, counselling is a talking therapy which allows individuals to deal with specific life issues, whereas psychotherapy is used to deal with 'deeper' issues, most commonly in situations where past experiences cause present distress.

# What form of Counselling/Psychotherapy is available?

Most psychological therapies fall exclusively into one of the following categories:

1. Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

2. Psychoanalytical/Psychodynamic

3. Humanistic

4. Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP)

5. Gestalt

6. Existential

7. Person Centred

However, Pinnacle Therapy is different. We adopt an integrative approach to counselling and psychotherapy. This allows us to blend a variety of approaches together within a single framework. It also means that we can offer you a choice of either short-term or long-term therapy solutions. As a result, we are able to tailor our services to match your individual needs and requirements much more closely than any single traditional form of therapy would allow.

# How long does Counselling/Psychotherapy treatment last?

The number of sessions that you decide to book will vary according to the nature of your presenting issue and the depth to which you would like to explore this issue. Some clients choose a short course of therapy to deal with a specific issue, whilst other clients prefer to undertake longer term therapy as a means of exploring broader themes within their lives. The length and form of the therapy is something that you can discuss and agree with your therapist at the start of the counselling process. This approach can then be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure that you are receiving the therapy that is right for you.

# What is the difference between Counselling/Psychotherapy and coaching?

Counselling/Psychotherapy and coaching share some similarities but in significant ways are also quite different. Coaching is strongly grounded in work effectiveness and performance rather than wider life issues. Whilst certain skill-sets are similar, a counsellor or psychotherapist is typically trained to work at a far deeper level than a coach, particularly where psychological and emotional issues exist. In contrast to coaches, therapists are very careful about boundary issues and do not have contact with clients outside of the immediate working relationship.

Hypnotherapy

  • What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis for self-improvement and the removal of problems. Hypnosis is essentially guided meditation through which the natural power of the subconscious mind is employed to help make positive change.

Many people feel apprehensive about someone 'taking over' their consciousness, but this is not what happens. Instead, the therapist places you in a state of deep relaxation. This does not necessarily involve a swinging pendulum or the need to look deeply into the eyes of the therapist. Quite often it will just involve you closing your eyes and being guided through a sequence of muscle relaxation exercises. Once the body is deeply relaxed, the hypnotherapist can work with you in a creative way.

  • How long does Hypnotherapy treatment last?

It is generally a short-term method of treatment and you will usually benefit from it within the first few sessions. Those people who are motivated to change have the most success.

A visit to a hypnotherapist normally takes about an hour. Most clients cannot believe how quickly the time goes, and sometimes the hour seems more like twenty minutes. This is because in the relaxed hypnotic state we are not as aware of time as we are in our normal state.

  • Which conditions does Hypnotherapy help?

It has been shown to be effective in treating a number of issues, including:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of confidence
  • Anger
  • Performance issues
  • Unwanted habits or addictions
  • Phobias
  • Weight control
  • Physiological issues

  • Smoking Cessation

  • How can we help?

According to research published in "The New Scientist" in October 1992, hypnosis is by far the most effective way to stop smoking.

Our breakthrough treatment programme combines the latest discoveries in hypnosis with your own individual smoking behaviour. This personalised service has proven so effective that over 70% of our clients come from referrals alone.

Our hypnotherapy for smoking cessation is so successful, because you receive immediate rewards for your efforts.

The unique structure of our treatment means that you will not feel deprived in any way. Our aim is to enable you to feel like a non-smoker, not an ex-smoker.

  • How long does treatment last?

Treatment takes place over one 2hr session. That means that you can arrive as a hardened smoker and leave as a natural non-smoker - all in the space of one day. The fact that each of our sessions is specifically tailored to your individual needs and requirements means that you have a greater opportunity for lasting success.

In the unlikely event that the treatment is not fully successful, we also guarantee an additional free 1hr backup session (valid for up to 3 months after the completion of the standard course of treatment).

All of our Smoking Cessation clients are also eligible for free ongoing email and telephone support, ensuring that they receive all of the practical and emotional support that they require to permanently beat the smoking habit.

  • Weight Control and Healthy Eating

  • How can we help?

Although dieting can help you to lose weight in the short term, the results are unsustainable and the weight inevitably creeps back on. This is because dieting alone does not address the underlying subconscious impulse.

Results consistently show that it is the people who successfully manage to change the role that food plays in their lives who are able to control their long term weight.

At Pinnacle Therapy, all of our therapists have been professionally accredited by the National Centre for Eating Disorders.

Our therapists use hypnotherapy in order to help you to let go of all those bad habits and false beliefs that stopped you losing weight in the past. Armed with this valuable insight, we can help you to move forward by developing new habits and beliefs.

  • Corporate Services

Issues such as stress or low morale within the workplace can be damaging not only to employees, but also to businesses as a whole.

The consequences of leaving these unaddressed include:

  • Increased levels of Absenteeism

  • Increased turnover of Staff

  • Increased numbers of Legal Claims

  • Decreased productivity and performance

Health & Safety Executive commissioned research has indicated that:

  • Around half a million people in the UK experience a level of work-related stress that they believe makes them ill

  • Up to 5 million people in the UK feel "extremely" stressed by their work

  • A total of 12.8 million working days were lost to stress, depression and anxiety in 2004-2005

Directly addressing these matters can enable you to safeguard the welfare of your employees, whilst leaving you free to focus on managing your core business.

    Mediation work

Mediation is now recognised as one of the fastest and most cost-effective routes to achieving settlement of a dispute. Going to trial is expensive and stressful, often taking months or years of costly litigation, with no guarantee of an outcome that satisfies the parties when you get there.

We bring together opposing parties and their advisers and replace adversarial confrontation with principled negotiation. Our object is to find a workable agreement between the parties and avoid recourse to the Courts. The benefits of reaching agreement through mediation include:

  • Settlements are achieved at mediation in about 85% of cases.

  • Savings in costs, stress, management time and distractions.

  • Mediation is entirely private and avoids unwelcome publicity.

  • Settlements through mediation do not set future precedents.

    Occupational & Organisational stress prevention/management

Your workforce is your most precious asset, so it makes sense to take the best care of them - not just to comply with legislation, but also to inspire greater commitment, efficiency and productivity.

As members of the International Stress Management Association (ISMA), our emphasis is on prevention rather than reaction. Our desire is to work in partnership with you to address your specific needs and to save your company money.

Whatever the size and nature of your organisation, from a small to medium enterprise to a multi-national company or a public sector body, we have the experience and expertise to assess your requirements and help you implement an occupational health programme to fit your culture and business priorities.

    Critical incident stress debriefing

Tragically, every organisation has to be prepared for critical incidents and the need to provide appropriate aftercare for all victims, employees and relatives. We provide the comprehensive range of specialist skills needed to limit the long-term emotional affects of such incidents, helping you to minimise the disruption to the welfare of your business, employees and customers.
